How It Works

Knowing the per-serving breakdown of calories and cost helps with meal planning and budgeting. This calculator divides your totals evenly and then scales to any number of servings you need.

The Formula

Per Serving = Total / Number of Servings. Scaled Total = Total x (Desired / Original).

Variables

  • Calories/serving — Total calories divided by number of servings
  • Cost/serving — Total cost divided by number of servings
  • Scale factor — Desired servings divided by original servings

Example

A recipe with 2,400 total calories and 6 servings has 400 calories per serving. Scaling to 4 servings: 2,400 x (4/6) = 1,600 total calories needed.
