How It Works
This is your all-in-one kitchen converter. Enter any amount in any common cooking unit and see the equivalent in every other unit. Volume and weight are kept separate because converting between them requires knowing the ingredient.
The Formula
All volume units convert through milliliters. All weight units convert through grams. Volume-to-weight requires ingredient density.
Variables
- 1 cup — 236.588 ml = 16 tbsp = 8 fl oz
- 1 pint — 473.176 ml = 2 cups
- 1 quart — 946.353 ml = 4 cups
- 1 gallon — 3,785.41 ml = 16 cups
- 1 oz — 28.35 grams
- 1 lb — 453.59 grams = 16 ounces
Example
1 cup = 16 tbsp = 48 tsp = 8 fl oz = 236.6 ml = 0.5 pints = 0.25 quarts.
Tips
- Volume and weight are different things -- 1 cup of feathers and 1 cup of lead weigh very differently.
- Use the Weight to Volume converter if you need to go from grams to cups for a specific ingredient.
- US pints (473 ml) are smaller than UK pints (568 ml). This converter uses US measures.
- When in doubt about a recipe, weigh your ingredients on a scale for precision.
